Morris Williams Golf Course

Known for its terrific layout and reasonable green fees, Morris Williams Golf Course has been one of Austin's most popular municipal experiences since it opened in 1964. Morris Williams was designed by Leon Howard, a prolific golf course architect whose works include two layouts at The Hills of Lakeway near Austin. Located near where the former Austin International Airport used to be on the northeast side of the city, the course features a few elevation changes, some interesting doglegs and several uphill and downhill shots. Renovated in 2012, the course got an extra 400 yards to increase its overall distance to more than 7,000 yards. The renovation also included reshaping and enlarging of the greens – most of which are raised and have lots of contours -- some hole modifications, new tee boxes and extensive bunker work. Among the highlights of this parkland course is the par-4 13th, which includes a split fairway divided by a hill and trees and can either play uphill or downhill on the approach depending on which route you choose off the tee.
