PGA WEST - Pete Dye Mountain Course

One of Pete Dye's most playable and picturesque layouts, the Mountain Course at La Quinta Resort is both memorable and enjoyable to play. The course, which opened in 1981, has undergone a few renovations over the years, but what haven't changed are all the incredible vistas. Perennially listed among America's top 100 golf courses by more than one publication, the course has plenty of highlights, perhaps best exemplified by the par-3 16th. The tee on this hole is 100 feet above the green, meaning the shot usually plays two or three clubs less than the advertised yardage, all the while giving golfers panoramic mountain views. Still, the course is a Dye design, which means some difficult bunkers and a few tricky greens, but the fairways are generous. The par-72 Mountain Course at La Quinta has five sets of tees, ranging from 3,745 yards to around 6,666 yards. It also shares practice facilities and a magnificent clubhouse with the original Dunes Course at the resort. There, golfers will find a large, well-stocked golf shop and excellent dining.
