Governors Run Golf Course

Opened in 1994, Governors Run's Championship Course is a tough, interesting layout with plenty of penalty areas. The 7,013 par-72 course, which was designed by Donald Horrell, has 13 lakes scattered throughout the layout. Some of them are a bit hidden, so a guide book for first-time players would be helpful. Once rated among Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play," Governors Run has five sets of tees, playing as short as 4,570 yards. The no. 1 handicap hole is the 421-yard par-4 15th, a dogleg right with a very narrow opening through the woods off the tree. The facility also has a par-3 course, which was designed by Horrell as well. It has holes that range from 74 yards to 150 yards. Practice facilities include a driving range, chipping green and putting green. The clubhouse includes a bar and restaurant. Stay-and-play packages with local hotels are also available through the club.
