La Paloma Country Club - Resort Course 3 0

La Paloma Golf Club is in Tucson, Arizona, just north of the Catalina Foothills and about a 20-minute drive north of downtown. Only club members and guests of the Westin Hotel can play La Paloma. The rugged beauty of the Santa Catalina Mountains and the high Sonoran desert echo through the resort's unique architecture. Rock formations, desert gardens and waterfalls surround the resort, creating a natural and relaxed atmosphere. The complete 27-hole course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, is recognized as one of the top in the country for men and women. Golf for Women rates it one of the top 100 women-friendly courses, and Golf Magazine has awarded it a silver medal. It's a target-type layout, with severe consequences for golfers who miss-hit their shots. La Paloma's three nine-hole courses are played as three eighteen-hole combinations. The Canyon nine is considered the most difficult, followed by the Ridge nine and the Hill nine. The Ridge/Canyon Combination was ranked by Golf Digest as the 59th Best Golf Resort Course in the U.S. for 1992, and the 13th "Best in State" course for 1995. These are typical desert-target courses, featuring many changes in elevation, plus elevated tee boxes and greens.
