The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley Golf Course is in Birmingham, Alabama, about a 20-minute drive from downtown. The 54-hole facility was built on former mining land owned by U.S. Steel. Sculpted from the peaks and valleys of the Appalachians, the courses offer scenic forests, numerous creeks and challenging elevation changes. Oxmoor Valley's Short Course is a series of 18 one-shotters ranging from 60 to 260 yards, with Tifdwarf Bermuda greens. It plays along the Ridge Course and also features rolling hills and dramatic elevation changes. The Short, averaging about two to three hours, is great place to practice your iron play and short game. Golf Digest's Places to Play lists it as one of the nation's Great Value courses in the public category.
