Grand Traverse Resort and Spa is in Williamsburg, Michigan, near the banks of the Grand Traverse Bay's east arm and a 15-minute drive from Traverse City. For 28 years, the resort was the host site for the Michigan Open, one of the most prestigious state golf championships in the nation. Thanks to three different designers, Grand Traverse boasts a colorful palette of courses, each offering varying levels of challenge. Spruce Run is Grand Traverse's original resort course. Designed by former University of Michigan golf coach William Newcomb, Spruce Run golf course was aptly named to reflect the numerous fir and spruce trees that line its fairways and undulating greens. The course gracefully winds among the rolling hills overlooking East Grand Traverse Bay. More forgiving than The Bear, Spruce Run will challenge you and offer hours of fun. It's the perfect course for a relaxing morning or afternoon outdoors, spotting wildlife along the way. Yet it's also a championship course, and was home to the Michigan Open before the completion of The Bear. Through the years, Grand Traverse Resort has been honored with numerous golf awards recognizing it as one of the Midwest’s finest golf experiences, in such publications as Golf Digest, Conde Nast Traveler, Golf Magazine, Travel & Leisure Golf and Links Magazine.
