Best Golf Courses Near Auburn, AL
Auburn, Alabama, has been called “the loveliest village on the plains,” and one of the best college towns in the South. When you visit Auburn you should tour the campus—in addition to nice architecture and lovely grounds, there’s an arboretum, an art museum and a sports museum. Just don’t dawdle–there’s golf to be played. Auburn, along with neighboring Opelika, has previously earned Golf Digest’s rating as the best golf city in America. While Auburn University has its own private course, the choicest public tee times are at the 54-hole Grand National, one of the original Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail facilities and a site Jones himself called the best he’d ever worked on. Grand National’s layouts include the championship Links Course, the Lake Course that wins for beauty, and the par-3 Short Course, which is both pretty and tough. Golf Advisor perennially rates Grand National one of Alabama’s top courses. Venerable Indian Pines Golf Course, a muni that debuted in 1946 as a private club, was redesigned in 1999. Keep an eye out for a tee time discount at The Greens at Auburn, a narrow 9-hole layout that is the chief amenity of a residential apartment community. After golf, head downtown, where the central intersection is immediately obvious by the huge tiger paw painted on the street.
