Best Golf Courses Near Dothan, AL
Dothan, known as “The Peanut Capital of the World,” is a city in southeastern Alabama located 16 miles west of the Georgia state line and 20 miles north of Florida. It’s a hotbed of golf thanks largely to Alamama’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. The 36-hole Highland Oaks Golf Course debuted on the Trail in 1993, the year after the Trail’s four original sites opened throughout Alabama. Highland Oaks hosted the second week of the 2021 LPGA Q Series, just one of many tournaments that have been held on the Highland and Marshwood nines that comprise the championship routing. The Magnolia nine, with its specimen trees and 1,000-foot-long wooden bridge, and the par-3 Short Course round out the facility’s remaining playing fields. Good golf in Dothan isn’t just limited to the RTJ Trail. You may be able to get a tee time discount at Dothan National Golf Club, a championship course that can stretch to 7,500 yards. Rambling over rolling hills, this elegant, tree-lined layout enjoys a setting amidst an abundance of wildlife. In nearby Cowarts, Alabama, Kilgore’s Roundabout Plantation Golf Course provides a much easier and more casual game on a playing field dotted with a number of ponds. When you’ve concluded your golf for the day, head to downtown Dothan. In addition to the “World’s Smallest City Block,” you’ll find shops and restaurants and a couple of museums, one of which honors George Washington Carver. That’s appropriate in this city located in the heart of peanut-growing country. The biggest annual event in Dothan is the 10-day National Peanut Festival in fall. While the festival packs in a lot of entertainment, you should have plenty of time to fit in a round of golf.
