Originally founded as a logging town, McCall, located about 100 miles north of Boise, is a mountain destination famous for its outdoor recreation year-round. In the winter, it’s a great ski location, but in the summer and fall, McCall, which sits on the shores of Payette Lake with Rocky Mountain views on all sides, offers boating, fishing, camping, hiking, biking and, of course, golf. The surrounding Payette National Forest is a real hot spot in the summer as the town’s population triples with visitors. In town, there are all sorts of great dining spots and places to hang out. The iconic Hotel McCall is a trip through the city’s history, while restaurants like the Foglifters Café and My Father’s Place are among the town’s favorite restaurants. Golf in the area is outstanding with resort courses like Whitetail Golf Club, an Andy North-Roger Packard design that plays nearly 7,200 yards, among the best in the area. Other good public options include the 27-hole McCall Golf Course and Meadowcreek Golf Resort in nearby New Meadows.
