One of the more upscale suburbs of Detroit, Rochester is a town of about 10,000 people with a quiet lifestyle. It has a charming downtown, unique shops and plenty of coffee shops and restaurants. Surrounded by Rochester Hills, it also more than its fair share of golf, both on the public and private side. One longtime favorite value course is Pine Trace Golf Club, which was designed by Michigan’s own Arthur Hills, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 91. Architect Kevin Aldridge designed it around a couple of lakes and streams, giving it a links feel and look. The nearby communities of Troy and Oakland have some good public courses as well, including municipal Sanctuary Lake Golf Course and 27-hole Twin Lakes respectively. The area has even more private clubs, like R&S Sharf Course, Great Oaks Golf Club, Wyndgate and Katke-Cousins Golf Club.
