Best Golf Courses Near Durham, NC
Durham, a point in The Triangle region of North Carolina that includes Raleigh and Chapel Hill, is home to Duke University. Duke is a wonderland of Gothic architecture, and its various museums, performance centers, sporting venues, and its exuberant student body set the tone for Durham itself. Not surprisingly given the magnificence of the Duke campus, Duke University Golf Club is the premier course in Durham. A Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design that has been updated by Rees Jones, it is one of the top U.S. university and North Carolina courses and it has hosted the NCAA Golf Championship. Durham’s oldest and busiest course is Hillandale Golf Course, a classic layout that opened in 1911. For rousing rounds you can play in more tranquil conditions, make a tee time at The Crossings Golf Club, a Ron Garl design with stunning vistas, beach bunkers, and an island green; the housing-free Falls Village Golf Club, which features dramatic elevate changes; or, over in Chapel Hill, UNC Finley Golf Club, a Tom Fazio signature design that he says stands up to any course he’s created in North Carolina.
