Best Golf Courses Near Norfolk, NE
Norfolk, Nebraska, the hometown of Johnny Carson of Tonight Show fame, is a city of 25,000 on the Elkhorn River in northeast Nebraska. Norfolk, which locals pronounce “Nor-fork,” is home to four golf courses. Norfolk Country Club is private but the other three are public. The most popular 18 in the area is Fair Play Golf Club, a 1966-vintage course that is an easy course to walk. Fair Play tests players of all skill levels with a number of doglegs and a tough back nine with long par fours and tricky greens. Eldorado Hills Golf Club features a mix of tree-lined and links-style holes as it weaves through a residential development. At the scenic 9-hole Kelly’s Country Club, a tributary of the Elkhorn River comes into play on five holes. Prairie grasses beyond the fairways at the 9-hole Evergreen Hill Golf Course in nearby Battle Creek provide challenge and a distinctive look. For something other than golf, downtown Norfolk features several blocks dotted with an array of locally owned shops and restaurants. Elkhorn Valley Museum interprets the history of the region and devotes an entire gallery to the life of Johnny Carson. Extending along the Elkhorn River, Ta-Ha Zouka Park is a favorite recreation spot and it also serves as the trailhead of the Cowboy Trail, a bike path built along an old railroad bed.
