Best Golf Courses Near Stillwater, OK
Stillwater, a city in north-central Oklahoma, is one of the prettiest and friendliest college towns in the country. Oklahoma State University is a big-time sports school,–the Cowboys and Cowgirls teams are national powers in many sports. Golf gets into the action as well–in 2018 the men’s team captured the national championship on its home course. You can make a tee time to play that course–Karsten Creek Golf Club, a Tom Fazio design laid out on up and down terrain. Karsten Creek has been one of Oklahoma’s very best public courses ever since it opened in 1994. OSU’s former home course, Lakeside Memorial Golf Course, a 1945-vintage layout that was updated in 1998, takes full advantage of the big oaks and gentle hills that define the playing corridors. Two other courses that list a Stillwater address are The Links at Stillwater Golf & Country Club, a narrow layout woven around an apartment development, and White Barn Estates, a pretty lakeside 9-hole par 3 executive course. When you’re in Stillwater, if you get the chance to go to a game at Gallagher-Iba Arena, be ready for noise—it’s called “The Rowdiest Arena in the Country.” Just off campus, “The Strip” is a bar district that is the epicenter of Stillwater’s music scene that earned the city the nickname “North Austin.” One of Stillwater’s most unique attractions is a visit to Kicker, a speaker manufacturer company. The Kicker Visitor Center is not only the starting point of a tour, it also features an exhibit of classic vehicles and a “Wall of Boom” that shakes the foundations of the building. Another star Stillwater attraction is the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, where you can stand on an Olympic pedestal. It might just inspire you to a peak performance when you have your next tee time.
