Best Golf Courses Near Warwick, RI
Warwick used to be known as a suburb of Providence, but it has grown to be Rhode Island’s second largest city. Called “The City by the Bay,” Warwick comes alive in summer, as its 39 miles of continuous coastline and numerous beaches are big draws. While the area’s highest rated golf course is the private, Donald-Ross-designed Warwick Country Club, public golfers looking for tee times enjoy appealing options. Valley Country Club, which has a mix of old holes with small greens from the 1920s as well as holes from the 1960s that feature large sloping greens, now opens its tee sheets to everyone. Cranston Country Club, which features an island green, earned Golf Advisor’s #5 rating among the top public courses in Rhode Island in 2021. In 2020, North Kingstown Golf Course, a muni that dates back to 1946, was Golf Advisor’s #2 in the state. Several 9-hole layouts also fall within Warwick’s orbit. Goddard Memorial State Golf Course and Harbor Lights Golf and Country Club, a picturesque layout that plays right up to Narragansett Bay, are two 9-holers right in Warwick. When your golf is over for the day, Warwick will keep you busy with its great beaches, a couple of lighthouses, and several museums. Topping the museum roster is Clouds Hill Museum, a beautiful granite, Gothic Victorian mansion that can be seen by appointment, as it is still the residence of the family that has owned it for generations. Downtown Warwick boasts several craft breweries, a diverse array of restaurants and bars, and a comedy club where audience participation is not only invited but also an integral part of the fun. There’s no excuse for saying Warwick is hard to get to if you fly– Providence’s T.F. Green International Airport (PVD) is located right in Warwick.
