Best Golf Courses Near Bluffton, SC
Bluffton, the last town on the South Carolina mainland before the bridge to Hilton Head Island, is all about golf. If you read the various major golf magazines, you’ve probably seen ads for residential golf developments such as Belfair, Berkeley Hall, Colleton River, and Palmetto Bluff. Gated golf communities may be predominant in Bluffton, but public access courses with tee times—and tee time discounts—are plentiful, too. Eagle Pointe is a Davis Love III design with generous fairways, sculpted bunkers, and an abundance of water hazards. Crescent Pointe is a scenic and challenging Arnold layout. Rose Hill Golf Club provides a mix of tricky doglegs, tough par 3s, and easy holes. Two of the more popular Bluffton courses are Old South, which alternately features holes routed through old forest, open meadows, and tidal salt marsh, and Hilton Head National, where Gary Player and Bobby Weed designed contrasting nines. Still more great golf abounds on Hilton Head Island. Bluffton’s chic resort golf experience is the Montage Palmetto Bluff, where guests play the private, Jack Nicklaus-designed May River Golf Club. The May River runs through Bluffton’s historic Old Town, which charms with its ancient oaks, historic architecture, and galleries and boutiques. Bluffton is also famous for its festivals—Mayfest and the Bluffton Arts & Seafood Festival top the list—and its vast outlet malls, but golf courses and more golf courses are the town’s defining characteristic.
