Best Golf Courses Near Fort Mill, SC
Perched near the border with North Carolina, the town of Fort Mill, South Carolina is an attractive suburb of Charlotte. Though Fort Mill is growing fast, it enjoys the quiet and homey feel of a small town plus immediate access to a big city. Golf is a game more in step with “the quiet Fort Mill.” The higher rated of the two golf courses in town is Springfield Golf Club, a hilly, scenic and heavily wooded layout that skirts a creek and calls on players to hit several shots over streams. Golf Advisor rated Springfield the 23rd best course in South Carolina in 2020. Donald Ross and George Cobb each designed nine holes at the tree-lined Fort Mill Golf Course that sports a vintage feel. Note that both courses in Fort Mill provide opportunities for tee time discounts. For additional tee times in Fort Mill’s orbit, consider Waterford Golf Club, which rambles on wooded rolling terrain in Rock Hill, and Tega Cay Golf Club, which anchors a residential development on Lake Wylie. Tega Cay has three nines. The standard 18 is the Carolina Pines-Grande View combination. The Cove nine is the narrowest and, to some, the hardest side at Tega Cay due to its narrow fairways lined by out of bounds. Many more courses can be found in Ballantyne and Charlotte across the border. If you make your way to downtown Fort Mill, you’ll find an old historic district. One of the most noteworthy spots in town is the PuckerButt Pepper Company which produces the “Carolina Reaper,” the world’s hottest chili pepper. Our best advice is don’t sample the Reaper before your tee time. You may not be able to play after a bite of the gnarled red pepper.
