Best Golf Courses Near Jackson, TN
The city of Jackson, “The Birthplace of Rockabilly Music,” is 80 miles east of Memphis in West Tennessee. One of the city’s native sons was the locomotive engineer Casey Jones, who met his end in a train wreck by going full throttle—memorialized in song by Johnny Cash and others. If Casey Jones was a golfer, he’d have gone for every pin. Jackson golfers may be tempted to do that with a tee time at Jackson National Golf Club, a layout that encourages risk-taking with its five par 5s and five par 3s. Sister course Bent Tree Golf Club is a tree-lined track that rambles over up and down terrain. You’ll find more hills at the 9-hole Sculley Golf Club. For a Jack Nicklaus design in a natural setting head to Chickasaw State Park’s Chickasaw Golf Club, one of Jack’s “Bear Trace” creations. Many visitors use Jackson as a base to visit Shiloh National Military Park, a Civil War battle site. Top attractions in Jackson include Rusty’s TV & Movie Car Museum, where famous cars from Batman, The Dukes of Hazzard, and Back to the Future are on display; Carnegie Legends of Tennessee Music Museum, which explores the careers of music legends Carl Perkins, Sonny Boy Williamson and others; and The Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum. Ah, if only Casey had been a golfer.
