Best Golf Courses Near Sheboygan, WI
Sheboygan, Wisconsin, on the shores of Lake Michigan, is as rich a golf destination as any place in the country. That’s hardly an overstatement when you consider that this is Destination Kohler country and that most of the layouts are world-class, big ticket courses that fly the Kohler resort flag. Pete Dye designed four 18-hole courses here for Herb Kohler and each represents his best work. Topping the list at Whistling Straits is the Straits Course, whose latest turn on the world stage was the 2021 Ryder Cup. At Blackwolf Run, the River Course and Meadows Valleys Course present exhilarating rides over glacial kettles and moraines, through thick forests, and across the Sheboygan River. Blackwolf Run now also has a 10-hole par-3 course. But there’s also majesty beyond the Kohler resort realm. The brawny Jack Nicklaus-designed Bull at Pinehurst Farms is just down the road and many consider it to be as good as Pete Dye’s creations at a fraction of the cost. Returning to more everyday courses, Riverdale Country Club, a traditional, 1929-vintage layout lined by mature trees, is a course beginners can handle. The 27-hole Sheboygan Town & Country Club, which winds around the Pigeon River, features small, elevated greens. Novice players will fare well here, too, as long as they can get over the river and the berms. There’s much more to Sheboygan than golf, including beaches and Lake Michigan, museums, the Kohler Design Center that showcases Kohler-made home products, the amazing Kohler Waters Spa, and, of course, beer and brats in “The Bratwurst Capital of the World,” but if you are a golfer, nothing compares to the golf here.
