Opened in 1965, Yoakum County Golf Course in Denver City is an 18-hole layout with a few doglegs, a of water hazards that come into play and just a smattering of bunkers. Located about 80 miles southwest of Lubbock near the New Mexico border, this public golf course was designed by Warren Cantrell, a past PGA of America president who grew up in Hillsboro, Texas, six hours to the east. His golf course designs include Ocotillo Park Golf Course in nearby Hobbs, N.M. Yoakum County Golf Course is pretty straightforward. What you see is what you get. Water crosses the fairway on the short par-5 second, and there's a lake that comes into play between the 13th and 14th fairways, but the majority of the holes are pretty straight.. The par-71 course has four sets of tees, ranging from 4,923 yards to 6.509 yards. The facility also offers a driving range, practice green, well stocked golf shop as well as banquet and meeting rooms.
